About the Committee

The Data Centre & Data Centre Interconnection Committee is the FTTH Council Europe's newest committee, established to reflect the Council's expanded remit across data centres and the fibre infrastructure that connects them.

The Committee's current work programme includes a report on hollow core fibre (HCF) and multi-core fibre (MCF), a DCI market study developed with the Board, and updates to the Market Panorama to capture the Council's broader scope. Alongside this, the Committee is developing a programme of educational webinars for members on AI-driven data centres, covering the underlying drivers and market trends, internal data centre architectures and wider interconnection architectures.

The Committee also leads the data centre and interconnection content at the annual FTTH Conference, shaping several hours of programming across the full breadth of the Council's expanded remit.

Signal Quality and Performance Monitoring in FTTH Networks

This presentation explored the key technical challenges in GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) deployments and their corresponding solutions. These challenges were grouped into three areas: Signal Quality and Performance, Network Security and Reliability, and Scalability and Compatibility.

Ensuring strong signal quality involved managing the optical power budget, balancing splitting ratios, and minimizing latency and jitter. Scalability and compatibility were essential for addressing growing bandwidth demands, maintaining consistent Quality of Service (QoS), and ensuring seamless interoperability between equipment from different vendors.

The focus of this presentation was the calculation of health indexes for network elements in GPON networks. These indexes enabled the detection of signal distortions, thereby maintaining stable and reliable QoS/QoE. The presented health indexes were part of Axiros' monitoring and management solutions, which were based on well-defined standards and protocols.

Additionally, the presentation included AI predictive maintenance use cases, showcasing how artificial intelligence anticipated potential network issues, reduced downtime, and ensured optimal performance in GPON deployments.
