About the Committee

The Data Centre & Data Centre Interconnection Committee is the FTTH Council Europe's newest committee, established to reflect the Council's expanded remit across data centres and the fibre infrastructure that connects them.

The Committee's current work programme includes a report on hollow core fibre (HCF) and multi-core fibre (MCF), a DCI market study developed with the Board, and updates to the Market Panorama to capture the Council's broader scope. Alongside this, the Committee is developing a programme of educational webinars for members on AI-driven data centres, covering the underlying drivers and market trends, internal data centre architectures and wider interconnection architectures.

The Committee also leads the data centre and interconnection content at the annual FTTH Conference, shaping several hours of programming across the full breadth of the Council's expanded remit.

In this keynote address, Vincent Garnier, Director General of the FTTH Council Europe, presented exclusive insights from the latest FTTH Market Panorama, offering a comprehensive view of fibre deployment trends across Europe. Drawing on detailed, country-by-country data, he explored how different markets are progressing toward full-fibr coverage, highlighting leaders in both rollout and adoption, as well as identifying those regions just beginning to gain momentum.

The keynote examined the evolution of the copper switch-off, regulatory dynamics shaping deployment strategies, and the growing divide between urban and rural fiber access. With a focus on Romania’s role within the European landscape, Vincent Garnier showcased how the country compares to EU benchmarks and its potential to emerge as a regional frontrunner in digital infrastructure. This session offered strategic reflections on what lies ahead for Europe’s journey toward a truly connected, gigabit-enabled future.
