About the Committee

The Data Centre & Data Centre Interconnection Committee is the FTTH Council Europe's newest committee, established to reflect the Council's expanded remit across data centres and the fibre infrastructure that connects them.

The Committee's current work programme includes a report on hollow core fibre (HCF) and multi-core fibre (MCF), a DCI market study developed with the Board, and updates to the Market Panorama to capture the Council's broader scope. Alongside this, the Committee is developing a programme of educational webinars for members on AI-driven data centres, covering the underlying drivers and market trends, internal data centre architectures and wider interconnection architectures.

The Committee also leads the data centre and interconnection content at the annual FTTH Conference, shaping several hours of programming across the full breadth of the Council's expanded remit.

Digital Networks Act for a competitive and secure Europe

This conference examined the proposed Digital Networks Act (DNA) as a major reconfiguration of the EU regulatory framework for electronic communications, with the potential to support a more coherent and effective approach across the Single Market.

Bringing together policymakers, regulators, industry representatives, and academics, the event explored how the DNA could contribue to the governance of digital networks supporting greater coordination at EU level and helping address persistent fragmentation. Across two days of keynote and thematic panels, the conference assessed the legal, economic, institutional, and geopolitical implications of the DNA for investment, competition, resilience, and the functioning of the digital single market.

FTTH Council President Francesco Nonno joined the panel on copper-fibre migration alongside regulators, economists, and operators, discussing the competition dynamics, consumer implications, and operational considerations of a transition that is critical for Europe’s connectivity, competitiveness, and long-term digital future.

The programme also covered spectrum and satellite governance, cybersecurity and crisis preparedness, and the deeper question behind all of it: how moving from directive to regulation may support more consistent and effective decision-making across Europe.
