Our key policy priorities

The FTTH Council Europe considers that fibre networks are fundamental to the digital transformation of European economies and that the objectives of the Digital Decade need to be reached in a timely fashion.

To this end, the FTTH Council Europe considers it essential to maintain a favourable regulatory framework for fibre investment in a competitive environment. The existing framework has delivered, and is delivering, good results in terms of fibre deployment and in our view, in Europe, concerns are mostly on the demand side of the fibre market.

Among our key policy priority is copper switch-off, which would give a clear signal to the sector and investors, have  positive impact on FTTH roll-out and adoption, and have advantages in terms of energy efficiency and operational costs. This is why the FTTH Council Europe launched the Copper Switch-Off Tracker.

Browse below our key objectives that in our view should be at the core of the current  2024-2029 EU legislative and regulatory cycle.

In-Home Broadband Excellence Guide

Everyone knows that broadband access is absolutely essential in today's changed world, and fibre deployment plays a key role in this. However, fibre by itself is not sufficient. We should look further into the home, so that the amazing opportunities offered by fibre deployment can actually be realised, and end-users finally get the experience they deserve.

This Guide was written to help Communication Service Providers understand the topic of ‘In-home Broadband Excellence’, and determine the right path forward for their organisation. It raises three questions, each building upon the previous, which need to be answered in turn in order to get to an optimised solution:

· How to extend fibre performance to the end device?

· How to manage the user experience?

· How to add value and monetise it?

In this third edition edition, the IBE Guide updates a lot of its content to describe new technologies such as Wi-Fi 7 and FTTR, to describe state of the art handling of containers to deliver new services flexibly and scalably, an expansion on Wi-Fi mesh deployment methods and information for technicians to install Wi-Fi in the home in an effective and consistent way.
